Swing into style with the very popular and updated look of the Fifties. Perhaps the appeal lies in memories of simpler times or the quest to incorporate unique items into the decor. Many of these exciting designs are based on a post-war era that brought new and shiny items into the home. Families rushed to replace worn-out furniture and manufacturers were pleased to provide a blend of cushiony vinyl with chrome. Sling chairs also came onto the scene and you'll see many modified versions here for an eclectic approach that remains tasteful. With ice cream parlor styling, the chairs and tables in eating joints took on a life of their own and in time reached icon status. You can practically hear the coins jangling in the jukebox and the slide of a record onto the turntable. There is a certain electric appeal as well in Fifties structuring. It brought a new wave of craftsmanship to the forefront. The familiar husband-and-wife team of Charles and Ray Eames made their statement, along with famously named chairs by Arne Jacobsen. You can add a few select pieces to any decor or create a blended look with multiple furnishing choices. No more kitsch, though; it's all very trendy and sleek in terms of fabrics and framing. Keep primary colors in mind, along with big and bold geometric shapes. The Fifties was truly a decade that spawned so many favorites.
